Living Healthier – The Benefits of Exercising
The Benefits of Exercise – I have discussed several types of diets in past blogs so thought I would change things up with some discussion about the benefits of exercise.
These days our lives are so hurried that most of us do not get the exercise we need to keep our bodies in tip-top shape. Eating healthy is important but along with eating healthy, we should also be exercising to maintain a healthy body.
You know exercise is good for you, but do you know how good? From boosting your mood to improving your sex life, exercise can improve your life. The benefits of exercise and physical activity are hard to ignore. Everyone benefits from exercise, regardless of age, sex, or physical ability.
Living Healthier – Exercise controls weight
Exercise can help prevent excess weight gain or help maintain weight loss. When you engage in physical activity, you burn calories. The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn. Any amount of activity is better than none. We can walk to the convenience store instead of driving. At work take the stairs instead of the elevator. Even doing the housework can give you a workout.
Living Healthier – Exercise improves mood
Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier, more relaxed, and less anxious. You may also feel better about your appearance and yourself when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem.
Living Healthier – Exercise combats health conditions and diseases
Regular exercise helps prevent or manage many health problems and concerns, including:
- Metabolic syndrome
- High blood pressure
- Type 2 diabetes
- Many types of cancer
My husband took a job at a warehouse. He picks the customer orders. During the day he walks 12 to 15km. He has lost 40lbs. His blood pressure is under control (He no longer takes medication) and his type 2 diabetes A1C has been lowered. Proof that exercise does help.
Living Healthier – Exercise promotes better sleep
Regular physical activity can help you fall asleep faster, get a better night’s sleep and have a sounder deep sleep.
Living Healthier – Exercise boosts energy
Physical activity can help to improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance. Exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lung health improve, you have more energy to tackle daily chores.
Living Healthier – Exercise puts the spark back into your sex life
Regular physical activity can improve energy levels and increase your confidence in your physical appearance, which may boost your sex life.
But there’s even more to it than that. Regular physical activity may enhance arousal for women. And men who exercise regularly are less likely to have problems with erectile dysfunction than are men who don’t exercise.
Living Healthier – Exercise can be fun … and social!
Many people go to a gym and exercise. Some people like to jog or walk on outdoor trails. Still, others do activities that they enjoy such as playing baseball, soccer or maybe taking a dance class. Exercising can give you a chance to unwind, enjoy the outdoors, or simply engage in activities that make you happy.
The bottom line on exercise
Exercise and physical activity can be enjoyable and are great ways to feel better, boost your health, and have fun. Spread your exercise throughout the week. I personally walk five days a week and take two days off. Even small amounts of physical activity are helpful. Throughout the day your activity adds up to provide health benefits to you. So, get off that couch and get active. In the long run, you will feel better and so will your body. Remember the main thing is to get started, make it enjoyable, and reap the rewards that will follow.
It is always a good idea to see your doctor before starting any physical activity.
